I’ve always wanted to understand how things work.
Rope became another way of asking that question. What happens when we change tension, position, or movement? What happens in the body? What happens between two people? And why can something as simple as rope become such a powerful experience?
I’ve spent eleven years exploring those questions from both sides of the rope, first as the person being tied and later as the person tying. That experience matters to me. I don’t want to understand rope only from the outside.
My undergraduate work was in cellular and molecular neuroscience, with a minor in art history, at Temple University. I later earned graduate degrees in biomedical science and organizational development and leadership from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I spent years working in scientific research.
When I pick up a rope, I’m interested in more than the tie itself.
I want to understand the anatomy and mechanics underneath it. I care about line, composition, movement, and beauty. I’m interested in perception, communication, trust, and what the person in the ropes is actually experiencing. And as an educator, I want to take things that can feel complicated or mysterious and make them easier to understand without stripping away their nuance.
Aeaea is where all of those questions come together.
Named for Circe’s island, Aeaea is my evolving practice across rope, art, science, embodiment, and connection. It’s a place for experimentation, learning, making, and discovering what becomes possible when we pay closer attention to what we’re doing, what we’re feeling, and to one another.
